A Poor Queen comes to Southwark

Mab Jones, one of the finest and funniest poets to come out of Wales since you-know-who, is stopping by Listen Softly London – Live on November 24 in support of her brand new book, Poor Queen.

Poor Queen is Mab’s first collection, and it is the latest thoroughbred collection of poetry to be released from the enviable Burning Eye Books stable.

Mab has been described as “a superb performance poet” by Phill Jupitus, “Pam Ayres on methadone” – by the Cardiff Comedy Festival, and she has been told that “she is fantastic!” By BBC Radio, that “Mab is fab” by Hugo Williams and that she is, and no one doubts this, “a whirlwind of lyrical delirium” by Literary Death Match, USA.Poor Queen

Mab will be joined on the night by comedic storyteller Sarah Sheldon, Sara Hirsch and a yet to be announced special guest. Both are friends of Listen Softly London Live – Sarah is a London-based writer, journalism mainly, having covered everything from the Lithuanian laxative market to Panamanian presidential elections inclusive, and side lines in stand-up comedy. Sara is the current UK Slam champion who has featured on BBC television and radio performing her critically acclaimed poetry.

Dominic Stevenson, curator of Listen Softly London – Live, said: “Mab is a phenomenal talent who has spent the better half of the last decade writing and performing around the world. Her book, Poor Queen, is long-awaited and bound to be well received and we are so excited to be hosting a leg of her launch tour.”

The event will take place at The Crown, SE1, on Monday 24 November at 7.30pm. Tickets are £3.50 in advance for entry or £9 in advance entry with a signed copy of Poor Queen. On the day tickets will be £5 entry. You can find out more about Mab on her website: MabJones.com Mab Jones
